I cared for both of my parents when they were elderly and in declining health. This included companionship, personal care, doctor appointments, and companion/advocate during hospitalizations. It was the norm for me to sleep in a chair at the bedsides of my parents during frequent hospital stays. I am a committed advocate with above average knowledge of medical procedures, medications, and terminology. I have been a hospice volunteer for nearly 10 years. This has afforded interactions with seniors, particularly at a time when they have serious medical issues. In a volunteer capacity, I made Therapy Dog visits with my own dogs. In visiting assisted living residents, rehab/nursing patients, and dementia units, I had frequent opportunities to interact with seniors who had varying degrees of long-term health issues and mental decline. Aside from visiting with my dogs, one of my favorite activities is conducting sing-alongs. Because my long ago piano teacher had been a band leader in the 40's, I can take impromptu requests for songs from 30's forward, and love doing so.
