I’m reluctant to give a critical review, but our experience with Jen was disappointing. We agreed in mid-July to hire her as our daughter’s part-time nanny. She couldn’t start until September for personal reasons, so we held the position for her. After 3 weeks of working, she quit abruptly via a brief text. She didn’t give any advance notice and we had no prior indication that she was unhappy with the job. We are now scrambling and having to take time off work as a result. There was one incident that may have been a contributing factor to her quitting. We lent her a key to our condo’s common area, and she accidentally dropped it down the elevator shaft. We get it; mistakes happen. However, our building charges us a hefty fee to replace the key. I asked, as gently as possible, if she would be willing to pay for half the replacement fee. She agreed but quit the very next day. If that was indeed the reason for quitting, it doesn’t show much willingness to be accountable, or to talk through conflict. We would have much rather preferred to have a conversation about it than be ghosted. Jen had a gentle presence with our daughter, but the lack of communication has really made our lives harder as parents.
