I hired Karen in August 2023 to care for my baby girl. During her interview, my husband and I made it very clear that our work schedules varied throughout the week and that she was okay with having 1 to 3 shifts a week (at most). We also made it very clear that we would like to have a consistent babysitter for at least a year, which she also agreed to. We spent the day to train her which she was paid. We then had 2 shifts with her and on her last shift she said she is going to start a full-time position as a translator without giving any notice. She argued with me stating that she wanted more hours but I refused (which was inaccurate). She then mentioned that this full-time position had benefits and how could I have not wanted that for her. It was besides the point because it is extremely unprofessional to NOT give any notice of leave from a job. My husband and I work high-stress jobs at a hospital so we heavily relied on our babysitter to fulfill their duties. My husband and I frantically scrambled to find a replacement babysitter for the shifts she abandoned. When she fulfilled her 2 shifts she did not give much report at all except from me prompting her. She was quick to leave and now I understand why. Also, she lied to us stating that she would be working with us for at least a year. She was actively looking for another full-time position with benefits when she took the babysitting position. We were gaslighted. Karen was irresponsible & extremely unprofessional. I would not trust her.
