In my experience I have found that working with seniors gives you a valuable insight into the ageing process and what's to come. It gave me an opportunity to think about what matters most to me in life and how I will look after myself as well as them. Working with seniors/cancer/Alzheimer's patients has also helped drive me to be more compassionate. It increased my efficiency and helped to inspire greater patience. It has also helped create a more profound sense of gratitude for my own life and the life of my loved ones. My Aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020. I never understood the realistic need for authentic hospice care until I became one of her main caregivers. It was an experience like none other. What I remember most is the difficulty in trying to find someone to care for that was warm and didn't make her feel as if she was being a burden. My aunt passed in July 2021 and now my mom has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. This disease takes much patience and encouragement.
