About Laura

Hi there! I am a special education teacher with a Masters in Intellectual Disabilities/Autism with 10 years of experience in childcare and tutoring. I am currently a teacher in a self-contained classroom comprised of 11 students with multiple and severe disabilities who are between 5 to 9 years of age. My students have a range of mobility, visual, sensory processing, hearing, and speech delays and impairments, so I am experienced in and passionate about alternative methods of communication, positioning, and feeding needs. Many of my students are non-ambulatory, nonverbal, and g-tube fed. All of them have unique strengths and personalities. In addition to working with students with severe and multiple disabilities, I taught art classes and led arts-based camps for youth with and without disabilities for 3 years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco and taught ESL for one year in Marrakech. I'm passionate about providing my students with a strengths-focused, holistic education.
