About Mary

I have been around young children a lot as my mother was a live out nanny and there were always toddlers or infants in our house. I babysat for various neighborhood kids (ages 4-11) when I was in high school, and I found that I prefer working with the middle school age group. I became a volunteer at Wayne Presbyterian Junior High Youth Group while attending my first two years of college in Pennsylvania. The following year I became a student leader for my college's Prison Ministry team working in Philadelphia House of Corrections and with People for People Inc. People for People had a mentoring program in which I was a Mentor Coordinator matching young children who had an incarcerated parent with a mature college student. I also was a mentor for a teenager in this program. My last semester of college I was less involved with prison ministry and began tutoring a teenager with ADHD. I also began 'babysitting' part time for a nonverbal young woman with autism. I then graduated and moved out of the area. I attended graduate school and received my Master's in Clinical and Counseling Psychology. I completed research involving non-verbal young adults with autism and parents of children with autism. I graduated in 2013 but after much soul searching decided I wanted to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. I am a full time veterinary assistant and teach psychology for my alma mater part time, but I have lots of student debt! I'm looking to supplement my full time job with part time babysitting or pet sitting work.
