About Maya

Hi! I'm a student at Harvard College, and graduated from public high school in Washington DC - and I've spent five years tutoring and babysitting regularly. There is a certain frankness, openness, and curiosity that defines childhood that can be hard to access as you get older. I've found that spending time with kids opens my perspective just as much as I open theirs, and I welcome any opportunity to create that sense of joy. I've worked with children in different contexts: in a paint-your-own pottery studio in DC, as a volunteer martial arts instructor, and now over Zoom with a cohort of elementary schoolers. I love learning, I love teaching, and I particularly love seeing confusion turn to understanding with students I'm working with (and also with myself). My style is cheerful and calm, and I pride myself on enthusiasm and flexibility. I know that people learn in different ways. In my free time, I like to cook, read, and spend time outside.
