I have 2 years of experience working as a math and writing tutor for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders. I understand that children all learn differently, so I like to adapt my approach to tutoring depending on what works best for the child. Examples of this could include switching to a more hands-on approach, creating rhymes to help learn the material, or providing visual aids. Another tactic I use is to let the kids have a say in the material that they are learning. For example if I am teaching 3 digit addition, I give the child the freedom to pick the numbers that we use in the practice equations. I noticed the kids get excited and stay engaged when they are allowed to contribute to their learning experience. I am very patient, encouraging, and communicative. I always keep the parents/guardians updated on their child's progression and ways that they can support their child. My goal is to help the kids learn and grow in an environment where they feel seen and where their needs are supported.
