About Ruby

Hello! I'm a sophomore at Loyola University of Chicago with a passion for childcare, shaped by years of experience as the oldest of five siblings. Since I was 12, I've played a key role in supporting my single-parent mother by helping care for my younger siblings, who are now 3, 5, 7, and 12 years old. This hands-on experience has made me confident in caring for children across all age groups. This past summer, I had the opportunity to work as a Youth Learning and Enrichment Fellow for AmeriCorps. In this role, I provided support to youth aged 9-17 at a shelter, where I developed and implemented engaging activities that catered to a wide range of interests and needs. I believe in creating a nurturing and stimulating atmosphere that encourages both fun and learning. My approach to childcare centers on open communication, active engagement, and promoting a growth mindset. I focus on validating children's feelings, staying calm, and setting clear boundaries
