I am a 25-year-old caregiver who recently moved to Virginia from Florida, where I spent the last two years caring for an elderly gentleman who has since passed away. In my position with his family, I was responsible for living at the house. I made the three main meals every day, providing him with extra little snacks while maintaining his correct blood sugar levels and BMI. I assisted him with self-care and repeated things that people had said to him at a tone that he could hear. I kept a close eye on him and made sure there weren't any signs of seizures, falls, or any new wounds. I was always polite and very calm even in stressful situations, and I would always make sure to be prepared for the unthinkable. I changed my client's oxygen tanks and monitored the levels. If we went out, I would turn the oxygen up, and even during the hurricane in Florida I got him an oxygen tank and generator, making sure I had the necessities that I needed to take care of him at all times and costs.
