I've co-existed around animals my whole life - specifically, cats and reptiles. I've never had a dog myself, but love meeting them, playing, and taking them for walks. My animal expertise largely revolves around cats and exotic reptiles; I've kept all sorts of snakes, lizards, amphibians, and even large free-roaming reptiles. For reptile care: I'm comfortable with feeding live or F/T, and will watch to make sure there is no injury (as does sometimes occur with live feedings), though I am absolutely *not* comfortable caring for any hot (venomous) species. I also have a very extensive knowledge of reptile care and would love to help troubleshoot any problems that might be going on with your scaly (or slimy) friend! I worked in a pet store for two years and there I was able to learn the ins and outs of aquatic care (freshwater fish, saltwater, turtles), small animals, and birds. I haven't kept any of these personally but am very comfortable caring for them.
